Video Transcript: Want to rake the neck on your bagger for a 26 or 30 inch wheel? Today we’ll review how to install the best slip fit short neck kit for your custom motorcycle. Take it to the next level with our short neck front end package. It includes a big wheel, tire, rotor, fender and the short neck kit with triple trees.

The kit includes a one piece machined slip fit short neck and raked triple trees for a 26 or a 30 inch wheel.
For a 26 inch wheel, you will use the 4 degree neck and 8 degree trees. For a 30 inch wheel, you will use the 8 degree neck and 10 degree trees. This neck rake kit is designed for 09 and up Harley touring models. We currently have these in stock and ready to ship, so get yours today.
The first thing we need to do is to mark the cut lines on the frame and take some measurements.
After we cut out the template, place it on the neck and mark the cut line. I like to outline the mark with tape to make it easier to see while cutting the neck. Heat is the enemy when raking your neck. Avoid using cut off wheels that add unnecessary heat to your frame. When cutting your neck, I recommend either a portable bandsaw or reciprocating saw in order to get the job done right.
Debur the cut edge of the frame and remove a couple inches of the powder coat for marking the plug weld holes. I like to mark 4 spots on each side of the neck and 2 on top for drilling the plug weld holes. After raking a lot of necks, I’ve found it’s actually much easier and faster to drill ¼” pilot holes. Now I’m ready to use a ½ inch bit to drill the plug weld holes.
Debur the inside of the frame so the short neck slips in easily.
Slide the short neck into the frame and check the measurement with an angle gauge. I prefer to use a frame jig to ensure everything stays in place while I’m welding. This particular bike is set up for a 30 inch wheel and will use an 8 over neck. Make sure the short neck angle is 8 degrees over your initial measurement.
Clamp the short neck to the frame and double check your neck angle before tack welding it in place. Weld the neck to the frame first, then the plug weld holes. Make sure you move around while welding to evenly distribute the heat. Remember, Heat is the enemy.
After the frame has cooled down, we can grind the neck and prep it for paint. This is what your frame should look like when you’re done. If you have any questions, give us a call and one of our experts will be happy to help.
